Pain Reprocessing Therapy Training

Date: August 04 - 25, 2023
Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT) is an evidence-based approach for treating chronic pain. Rooted in neuroscience, PRT aims to rewire neural pathways in the brain in order to deactivate pain. Our course covers a thorough and comprehensive training of the psychological treatment, focusing on psychoeducation, application, and integration of techniques, certifying clinicians to utilize the treatment in their own practice. Our training will cover the five main components of PRT in detail: 1) education about the brain origins and reversibility of pain, 2) gathering and reinforcing personalized evidence for the brain origins and reversibility of pain, 3) attending to and appraising pain sensations through a lens of safety, 4) addressing other emotional threats, and 5) gravitating to positive feelings and sensations.
Each week, trainees will be given access to a three hour video training, to work through on their own schedules. This will be followed by a live training each Sunday from 9AM – 12PM Eastern time. These live, interactive trainings allow clinicians to practice integrating and applying the techniques learned throughout the previous week’s lessons.

The training is 21 hours in total, and CEs will be offered to psychologists, MSWs and MFTs. All certified psychotherapists will be added to our Directory of Practitioners.

The training will cover the following topics:

The neuroscience behind chronic pain.
Assessing for Neuroplastic Pain.
Overcoming barriers to accepting a diagnosis of Neuroplastic Pain.
Breaking the pain-fear cycle.
Somatic Tracking – a guided exercise combining mindfulness, safety reappraisal, and positive affect induction.
The Process – a formula to determine when and how to use various pain-reducing techniques.
Overcoming extinction bursts and other setbacks. Addressing other psychological factors that contribute to an overall sense of danger.
Developing a toolkit for maintenance and relapse prevention.
